Malaysia Company Registration Cost: Government and Service Fees
Reconcile the official filing charge with the professional work you are buying.
For a Malaysian company limited by shares, the SSM incorporation charge is MYR 1,000. That official amount is only one part of a service-led registration budget: identify professional work, recurring appointments and external expenses before accepting a total. Public offers have different coverage, so a headline package cannot be added to government fees until its inclusions are checked.
Key takeaways
- A government tariff prices a filing, while a provider quotation prices a defined engagement.
- An inclusive package may already contain the SSM charge; adding it again overstates the bill.
- Separate expenses from funds retained by the company or held as refundable security.
- Use the same service period and tax basis when comparing two offers.
Price the official filing before the engagement
SSM lists MYR 1,000 for incorporating a company limited by shares. A separately reserved company name costs MYR 50 for each 30-day period or part, within the permitted maximum. The official company fee table distinguishes those items. The direct incorporation route combines the name and incorporation processes; a separate reservation is not an automatic extra for every applicant.
| Payment | MYR basis | When it belongs in the bill | What it does not buy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Incorporation | 1,000 once | A company limited by shares application | Professional coordination or operations |
| Separate name reservation | 50 per 30 days or part | When that reservation route is selected | Incorporation itself |
| Professional engagement | Written quotation | Named preparation and coordination work | Unlisted appointments and third-party approval |
| Company funds | Chosen for the business | Share subscription or operating cash | Revenue for the registration provider |
Amounts and public price observations were checked on October 28, 2026. The tariff is not a promise of acceptance or an all-inclusive establishment cost. Identify the payee for every transfer: SSM, the adviser, another supplier or the company itself. A single bank transfer to an adviser may still contain several legally and commercially different components.
Identify the filing and service scope
Set out the intended entity and the work covered by the opening price.
Read market offers as different products
Two current public observations illustrate why scope matters. One provider displays an incorporation figure of MYR 1,599 and a separate basic secretarial subscription of MYR 29 monthly. Another advertises an incorporation package from MYR 2,499 with a first-year secretary inclusion and a different later subscription. These are separate advertised offers, not endpoints of a like-for-like market range.
The first observation gives a simple retainer annualisation of MYR 29 × 12 = MYR 348. It does not establish whether MYR 1,599 already contains every government or first-year charge. The second offer must be read with its own conditions. Tax treatment and any ambiguous government-fee label require invoice-level confirmation before a combined total is used.
HSJGlobal services require a Malaysia-specific written quotation. The observations here are independent market references, not HSJGlobal prices. Avoid interpreting a competitor’s advertised inclusion as a promise that another adviser will perform the same work. The useful comparison is the deliverable, its quantity and its coverage dates, rather than which heading appears cheapest.
Once you know which items are consumed expenses and which remain recoverable or company-owned, a cost map can keep the payment decision consistent.
Reconcile an inclusive invoice without adding fees twice
Use this calculation for a quote that states its treatment of official costs: total payable to the provider = professional charges + official charges collected by the provider + other agreed disbursements + applicable tax − credits. Add a direct payment to SSM only if that charge has not already been collected or paid on your behalf. An included government charge must not be added twice. A provider’s reimbursement line needs an identifiable underlying payment.
- Mark each line as government, professional, third-party, company cash or refundable security.
- Record whether its amount is included in the headline figure, additional or paid directly elsewhere.
- Write the service period beside retainers; split first-year coverage from renewal.
- Recompute the total using only additional lines and retain the quote revision you accepted.
For example, MYR 1,000 incorporation plus one MYR 50 reservation period produces MYR 1,050 in those official items only. If a quote already includes both, the official subtotal remains MYR 1,050 inside its price; it is not a second payment on top. This illustration intentionally supplies no invented professional fee. Apply the approved provider amount to the same reconciliation when you receive it.
The companion quote exclusions and fee classification checklist helps turn ambiguous wording into questions about deliverables. Keep the written answers with the invoice, especially where banking assistance, translations or later filings are described only as support.
Resolve an inclusive-price mismatch
Bring the invoice and the list of official charges already covered.
Test recurring and conditional items before paying
A company secretary must be appointed within 30 days after incorporation under SSM’s incorporation guidance . Ask whether the first appointment, the continuing retainer and preparation of later corporate actions are separate purchases. A registered-office service also needs an explicit term; an address inclusion does not establish mail forwarding or permission to use premises for trading.
Resident-director support, overseas shareholder evidence, certified copies, translation, bank onboarding and licence work should enter the budget only when needed and actually scoped. Distinguish a service provider’s preparation work from the independent institution’s decision. Paying for assistance cannot settle a bank’s KYC outcome or a regulator’s approval.
For wider entity and operating considerations, use the Malaysia company registration pathway before pricing optional work. A narrow filing quote should not be expanded casually into a total launch budget. Premises, salaries, inventory and working capital have their own timing and remain business funding rather than an incorporation service charge.
Ask separately about SST, reimbursed expenses and the tax basis of each invoice. No uniform percentage is assumed here. The renewal date can change the cash requirement even when the opening price is accurate: a short introductory period may end before your first full operating year.
Approve a reconciled registration price
Approve the engagement when the official items can be traced, professional outputs can be counted, recurring periods are visible and every additional payment has a stated trigger. Keep capital and refundable security outside the consumed-fee subtotal, while still showing them in the cash plan.
Pause when a provider cannot explain an inclusion, a second government charge or the treatment of unused funds after cancellation. Resolve that line before comparing total prices. A reproducible bill provides a stronger decision basis than a low figure whose exclusions will be discovered later.

Frequently asked questions
Is a reservation compulsory before every incorporation?
SSM permits direct incorporation as well as a separate name-reservation route. Price the route actually selected.
Should a deposit count as a professional fee?
Show security separately from consumed service charges and inspect its custody, deduction and release terms.
Can I use an advertised package for every shareholder structure?
No. Check whether overseas corporate shareholders, verification work or extra participants change its scope.
Does the invoice establish that the business can operate?
No. Reconcile the paid filing separately from any bank, premises, licence or other operating approval.
